BanScope

What Is an X Ghost Ban?

“Ghost Ban” commonly describes replies that exist for the author but are difficult to find from outside the account. BanScope checks the actual reply IDs against direct access, reply search and conversation search instead of assuming absence from one thread view is proof.

Missing from a list is not always missing from X

Large conversations may be incomplete, reply permissions can affect visibility, and a thread view may not load every reply. A reliable diagnostic separates direct reply existence from whether the same reply ID appears in search or conversation queries.

BanScope reply verification

BanScope samples up to three recent replies, checks whether their status URLs resolve publicly, searches `from:username filter:replies`, and when a parent post is known also searches `conversation_id:parent from:username`. The Precise Reply Check can test one supplied reply URL with higher specificity.

See the BanScope methodology →

How to check

  1. Review Reply Visibility in the BanScope result.
  2. If uncertain, paste a real reply URL into Precise Reply Check.
  3. Confirm that the reply URL itself opens publicly.
  4. Compare reply search and the parent conversation.
  5. Repeat with another normal reply to see whether the pattern persists.

Why a reply may be hard to find

  • Reply permissions or restrictions on the parent conversation.
  • Deleted/private reply or deleted parent post.
  • A large conversation that is not fully returned.
  • A reply that resolves directly but is absent from available search/conversation output.

How to re-test

  • Post one short, normal reply to a public account.
  • Wait a few minutes before testing.
  • Use the exact reply URL.
  • Compare multiple conversations before generalizing to the whole account.

Manual check

  1. Open the reply URL in a private browser.
  2. Open the parent conversation from another account.
  3. Search `from:username filter:replies`.

Why BanScope does not overclaim

A missing reply ID can be an important warning, but it can also be caused by conversation limits or incomplete retrieval. BanScope reports uncertainty when evidence is insufficient instead of claiming access to an internal ghost-ban flag.
